Since we have Halloween coming up in a week, I thought we should go through some good old fashion horror films! We begin today with fantastic ghost film poltergeist!
The story of Poltergeist follows a normal family who have been experiencing some strange activity after an earthquake. These experiences include: chairs moving and stacking themselves, strange sounds, their daughter talking to the "T.V. people" and their dog trying to play with someone. The family does not see this as a problem until their son is attacked and their daughter, Carol Anne is taken to the other side. This is where the film picks up and becomes the ghost film we have been waiting for. Poltergeist now becomes a battle to save their daughter from the other side before she is taken into the "light". I would spoil it for you but you will not be disappointed.
What makes this film so clever is the built up. At the beginning of the film we are introduced to the family in their everyday life. This is crucial to the rest of the film. To care about this family we need to grow attached to them, before anything happens. If this start wasn't there then we won't care what horrible things happen to them. Always making them a normal family really helps this concept.
The film becomes very powerful connection between mother and daughter, as the mother fights to get her back. What makes it powerful is when we have the daughter calling out for help from the other side we are heavily impacted. We want to help the daughter and we relate with the mother because we want to help but we are unable to. Scenes between the rest are the family are also extremely powerful. Although a film family we do have the horror with certain as scenes such as: the ghost door, the pool scene, clown scene.
This is by far my favorite ghost film for the connection to the family and the overall story. It is an amazing film to watch with friends or on Halloween. I give this film 10/10 a certified haunting story that will make you rethink family bonds.
