I recently had a wonderful conversation with a friend of mine, and we discussing about the Final Fantasy franchise. I had asked what game I should purchase next and Yasmeen had said that compared to the franchise it isn't great as it's own game it's amazing. This made me think about franchises with amazing installments but are deemed subpar compared to others in that franchise.
A clear example of this in gaming is Silent Hill. Very early on in the series Silent Hill 2 came out. This game was deemed the greatest in the franchise for its use of horror and storytelling. The problem with this is later games were deemed "not as good as Silent Hill 2." The problem with this is the next two are games were fantastic in themselves! However weren't as successful because they were deemed subpar. This annoys me because they are greatly overlooked by fans and people a like.
This can also be seen in films with franchises such as: Alien, Narnia, Matrix and the list goes on and on.
This greatly annoys me because we shouldn't compare. We should see a film or a game as it's own being instead of apart of a franchise. There are hidden diamonds that are
